Information about the Faculty

The Faculty consists of two institutes:

• Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science,
• Institute of Physics.

The courses offered by the Faculty include physics, mathematics and computer science. They all received a positive opinion of education quality from the National Accreditation Commite.

The Faculty possesses the rights to confer the scientific degree of doctor:
– of physical sciences in the area of physics,
– of mathematical sciences in the area of mathematics.
Main directions of scientific investigations:

a) Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science:

• algebraic mathematical logic,
• theoretical computer science,
• mathematical statistics,
• general topology,
• applications of mathematics;

b) Institute of Physics:

• experimental physics including:
  – condensed matter physics,
  – plasma spectroskopy,
  – biophysics,
• theoretical physics including:
  – nonequilibrium statistical physics,
  – condensed matter physics,
  – mathematical physics,
  – astrophysics and cosmology,
• computational physics including:

– computational methods in solid state physics and nanostructure,
– computer simulations of positron implantation profiles,
– calculation ab initio.
