Prof. Jacek Nikiel at the Opole Science Salon: “Topology as abstract geometry”

Dear All,

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., the Social Activation Center in Opole (ul. Krakowska 32, 2nd floor) will host another meeting of the Opole Science Salon. The guest of the event will be Prof. Jacek Nikiel from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science at the University of Opole, who will give a lecture entitled “Topology as abstract geometry.” The series is organized by the Friends of Opole Society.

Professor Nikiel is a mathematician specializing in general topology, especially continuum theory. He has been working at the University of Opole since 2007; in 2008–2016, he served as dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics. In 2023, he was awarded the title of professor of exact and natural sciences.

Place and time: October 14, 2025 (Tuesday), 4:30 p.m., Social Activation Center, 32 Krakowska Street, Opole.
Host: Tadeusz Jacek Rogoża.
Series: Opole Science Salon – popular science meetings for residents and the academic community.

We encourage students and employees of WMFiI and anyone interested in mathematics to participate in the meeting—topology sounds serious, but it is really an elegant way of thinking about space and shapes that permeates contemporary science and computer science.
